After all this time, I still find it amusing that little old me, from Hyson Green, Nottingham, England is here, in America, the President of a successful CRO. My parents taught me to have a very strong work ethic (mother), and to always find fun in everyday life (father).Today, I make it my mission to laugh every day. I think laughter is the key to success; I believe you have to be able to laugh at yourself. For this reason, our offices are very relaxed. We always include fun to make our day compliment our exciting research!
I don't have an interesting story to tell you about how I always dreamt of owning and running a successful company. Actually, it is quite the opposite. I fell into this; and what a great fall it has been. The company I was working for in 2002 downsized in the US. Rather than move into a business position with that company, I opted to do what I am most passionate about, research. I simply love what I do! I enjoy working closely with companies on regulatory strategy and then designing clinical studies for them. I have over 20 years experience with navigating the FDA regulations, I can help you.
I have held the positions of a Monitor, a Project Manager, as well as, a Director of Clinical Operations. I know how it feels on the Sponsor-side of wanting a CRO that will partner with you. I recognize the need for the CRO to understand their responsibilities, which are, to provide solutions and excellent customer service at all times.
When the opportunity to set up CROfessionals in May 2002 presented itself to me, I determined that I wanted to create a different type of CRO. I wanted to create a CRO that cares on all levels; one that, understands the needs of smaller Biotech/Pharma companies which require a CRO partner. I wanted to create a true CRO partnership where the CRO can navigate the FDA regulations, give honest advice and strategy while always being mindful of the sponsor's budget.
I would say that most CROs have qualified staff, but at CROfessionals I look for something more. I hire staff with the "it" factor. That means Monitors who understand the sites' workload, so they are willing to go beyond the extra mile to help their sites. Our Project Managers are trained to understand that YOU are the client; therefore, you deserve their full attention and daily communication. This includes following up and ensuring you have full trust in their dedicated service to you.
Part of my philosophy at CROfessionals was establishing our own 13 Principles of GCP (Good CROfessionals' Practices), which compliment the 13 principles of ICH GCPs. These principles are very important to me. They focus around providing superior customer service, being accountable, working together as a team, and being respectful of our clients and colleagues. CROfessionals works as a team to provide our clients with seamless service and tight partnerships.
CROfessionals has grown exponentially from a four-man company in my home basement in 2002. Today, we are a 60+ company with offices in Warrenton, VA. Sometimes, I have to pinch myself to believe this has happened; I feel very blessed and lucky. I have such a wonderful staff and we have a lot of fun bringing YOUR research to life. I have always been a risk taker, so I encourage my clients to be bold while we take their hand through the regulatory pathways of the FDA.
It may sound cheesy, but the truth is, I love what I do! I am so honored that I am able to provide jobs for some excellent individuals, as well as, take companies to licensure. This is what drives me. I am not driven by profits. I am driven by providing stability for my employees in the great work we receive!
